46 year old Carlos del Cerro Grande, a police officer in Spain has been named as referee for Fradi’s 3QR Leg 2 match. The very experienced elite level referee, has been on the FIFA list since 2013 and has over 70 mens International appointments under his belt. This is likely to be either his last or penultimate season on the FIFA list, given his age. He has history with Fradi as he was the man in charge for the away match v Molde FK in the Champions League QR 1st leg match in September 2020. Fradi drew 3-3 with a late equaliser coming from an 87th min penalty for handball. Less than 3 weeks after that game he refereed the World Cup qualifier between Hungary – Albania. The less said about that game the better and not because of the ref! His only other game involving a Hungarian team is back in season 18/9 when he refereed the Europa League Group L match between Bate Borisov – Vidi. In relation to teams from Azerbaijan, in season 15/16 he refereed FC Shamakhi – KF Laçi in a Europa League qualifier and in 6/17 he was in charge of FK Qabala – AS Saint-Étienne in the Europa League Group C. This is his first outing with Qarabağ FK.
Another Hungarian out in this round is ex FIFA referee Viktor Kassai, who as the head of referees in Bulgaria has been added to the UEFA Referee Observers list this season. Gratulálok Viktor.
