Following the news of his retirement it has now been confirmed that Viktor Kassai has been appointed head of refereeing in Hungary. The Russian Football Union have officially announced the appointment on their website György Ring, Kassai’s trusted #1 Assistant for many years has been given a position on the referee committee and will be working with Kassai in Russia.

Ashot Khachaturyants , Chairman of the RFU Judicial Committee:

– The RFU completed the search for candidates for the posts of heads of the refereeing department and the inspection department. The key selection criteria were both professional judicial qualities, as well as the skills of team and systemic work on the implementation of the refereeing reform, taking into account the use of modern technologies. Viktor Kassai has extensive international experience and a desire to build the most modern referee community in Russia. We found a professional and independent person for whom successful work in our country will become an ambitious challenge. The main tasks of Kassai at his post are the management of referees; development of uniform interpretations of the rules of the game and their implementation; evaluation of the work of referees; participation in the appointment of referees for matches; joint with the RFU CC, the construction of the entire system of training judges, starting with regional schools.

Victor Kassai , head of the refereeing department:

– I want to thank the leaders of the Russian Football Union for the invitation to a responsible position. I recently ended my career as an referee, and the opportunity to create a new judiciary is a very interesting task for me. I am sure that thanks to our joint work we will be able to bring refereeing in Russia to a fundamentally new level. In February, I will meet with all the Russian referees during the training camp, and we will begin to implement our strategy.

Congratulations and Good Luck Viktor.
