Introduction

Mr Solymosi was born in Veszprém on 6th September 1972. As a youngster he played football for Veszprém FC through the youth teams into the adult team. He later played for Volán Veszprém and  Gyulafirate, where he ended his playing career in 1997. He took the referee exam in Veszprém in 1995 and began to referee at county level within the Veszprém County Football Association, before working his way up to the professional leagues. His first official match as referee was during the Autumn of 1997 in a match between Várpalotai Bányász SK v Badacsonytomaji SE.  He made his NB1 debut as 4th official on 21st April 2001 in a match between Videoton v Vasas, with his full debut as an NB1 referee the following year on 10th April 2002 in the match between MTK v Sopron.

On 01.07.13 he became one of Hungary’s first 12 professional referees. In February 2018, Mr Solymosi made history in Hungary, along with his colleague Szabó Zsolt, when they became the first referees to continue after age 45 when the MLSz relaxed their previous strict retirement age and brought it inline with FIFA’s.
