Hungary vs Israel – Preview

KICK OFF: 20:30 CET

STADIUM: Puskas Ferenc Stadion, Budapest

Hungary face Israel tonight in their last remaining friendly before competitive football starts against next month.

After two impressive performances back in June against Czech Republic and Ireland, the Magyars would love to keep up their good form ahead of back-to-back World Cup qualifiers with Andorra and Holland in September.

Israel are sure to put up good opposition tonight, and with new a coach installed they have a new vibrancy about their side with some new young blood who are eager to impress.

They haven’t been at their best recently, losing 6 of their last 7 internationals but with players like Ben Sahar, Bibras Natkho and Yossi Benayoun their team is full of quality.

Hungary are likely to lineup in a 4-2-3-1, which has been Egervari’s preferred formation in recent months.

The defence of Vanczak, Korcsmar, Juhasz and Laczko is starting to become a stable back four and with Bogdan behind them, they now have a settled future who are being more accustomed with each other every game that passes.

After recent injuries to Hajnal and Gera, Koman is likely to sit behind the lone striker Szalai with Gyurcso and Dzsudzsak out on the wings. Gyurcso and Dzsudzsak were hugely impressive in the last two friendlies and more of the same is expected tonight.

Varga and Pinter are likely to sit in front of the defence. The combination of these two youngsters is becoming very strong and their contrasting playing styles benefit the team enormously. Pinter is an elegant player who favours intercepting over tackling while Varga is more of a pitbull ball-winning midfielder.

Hungary will expect to beat Israel tonight, especially in Budapest. 50 places currently separate the two sides in the FIFA rankings, but even though the rankings don’t tell the whole story, the Magyars will be huge favourites tonight. I’m going for a 2-0 win for Hungary.
