FK Skenderbeu 1-0 Debrecen – Match Report with Highlights
Debrecen’s European hopes were dealt a huge blow last night as they were outclassed from start to finish by Albanian champions, FK Skenderbeu.
And it was after just 2 minutes when they first tested Debrecen’s Serbian stopper, Nenad Novakovic who pulled off a World Class double save to keep the scores level.
While there wasn’t many huge chances, Skenderbeu were certainly the more threatening side, and Debrecen’s Novakovic was being kept constantly busy.
After 30 minutes, Skenderbeu again came close as Plaku cannoned the cross bar from just outside the area which was how close they would come in the first half.
The second period continued in the same pattern as the first with Skenderbeu again pouncing on defensive frailties in the Debrecen side. And their fans thought they were ahead after 52 minutes but Igli Allmuça effort found the side netting of a gaping goal.
But those fans weren’t to wait long as found Paku a way past Novakovic to give Skenderbeu the lead with 30 minutes to go after some awful Debrecen defending and it could have been more as time ticked away, if it weren’t for the impressive Novakovic.
Thankfully for Debrecen, Skenderbeu didn’t capitalise on their sub-par performance, and they still have a chance ahead of next Wednesday’s return leg in Hungary.
