Hungarian NBI Roundup – Week 3

Maric now has 4 from 3 this season

Results: Kaposvár 2-0 Videoton, Bp. Honvéd 4-0 Vasas, Győri ETO 1-0 Haladás, DVSC-TEVA 1-0 Ferencváros, Paks 1-1 Lombard Pápa, Diósgyőr 1-2 Kecskemét, Siófok 2-0 Újpest & Pécsi MFC 2-1 Zalaegerszeg

6 home wins in the 8 games over the weekend capped a pretty exciting week 3 in the Opta Bank Liga.

Gyor kicked off the weekend hosting Haladás in the Western Derby, and it was Gyor who were to be the victors with a relatively easy 1-0 win over their rivals from down south. Ex-Spartak Moscow midfielder Adam Dudas with the only goal to condemn Hali to their third consecutive loss of the season while Gyor now have three wins from three. Hali also had a man sent off for the third game in a row.

Saturday saw plenty of goals and four home wins. Honvéd kicked off the day by slaughtering Vasas 4-0 with former Vasas midfielder Norbert Nemeth claiming a brace. Vasas now lie bottom of the table with nil poit from the first three games. Honvéd sit in 5th place with 6 points from 9.

Siofok claimed their first points of the season beating Újpest 2-0, Huszak and Haraszti with the goals. Újpest also have no points from the first three games with pressure seriously mounting on manager, Géza Mészöly.

Pecs continued their winning streak beating pointless ZTE 2-1. Szabolcs Gyánó netting the winner from the penalty spot with just 10 minutes remaining.

The big shock of the day came in over in Kaposvár where champions Videoton suffered a 2-0 loss at Rákóczi. Milan Peric with a brace to give Paulo Sousa his first league loss of the season, and a lot of thinking to do ahead of next week’s game with DVTK.

But DVTK didn’t have the best of weekends either, receiving their 3rd red card in 2 games and losing at home 2-1 to Kecskemet. A last minute goal from Sindou Dosso giving KTE their second win of the season and DVTK their first loss since being promoted back to NBI.

Debrecen continued their fine form beating Ferencváros 1-0 to make it three wins from three for the 2010 champions. Ferencváros on the other hand are still without a win in three games, and Prukner’s job seems to be getting more precarious by the week.

Finally the weekend ended with yet another goal from Goran Maric to give Lombard Papa a 1-1 draw with Europa League outfit Paks. Papa have only scored 4 goals in the league this season and Maric has scored them all. The lad is on fire!
