Europa League – Preview

UEFA Cup - The Trophy.

Tonight, the last three remaining Hungarian sides in Europe are in action, and all have a good shot at getting into the Europa League 3rd Qualifying Round.

Ferencváros kicked off proceedings last week with a 2-1 win over Aalesund, beating the Norweigan side after going behind early on. Aalesund took the lead after just 20 minutes but Prukner’s team woke up, and just 15 minutes later Liban Abdi equalised to make it 1-1, then with half an hour to go Lorant Olah netted the winner for Ferencváros to give Fradi a slight lead ahead of tonight’s tie.

However Paks’ result against the other Norweigan side, Tromso, leaves them in a bit of trouble for the return leg after only managing a 1-1 draw at home. Again the Hungarian side went behind, but Paks, like Ferencvaros, were soon level and could have won the game late on after missing some guilt edge chances. It’s anyone’s game tonight in Norway.

And finally in Kecskemét, KTE could only get a 1-1 draw with FC Aktobe, and will be unhappy with the result, especially after taking such an early lead. It will be very hard for them later this evening, especially after the monstrous trip to Kazakhstan they had to endure.
