Paks and Ferencváros easily negotiated themselves through the first round beating Santa Coloma of Andorra and Ulisses of Armenia both by 5-0 scorelines.

Both sides went into the second tie in pole position, and Paks manager Károly Kis was wanting more from his players in the home leg, “Every start is hard, we made a lot of mistakes and played nervously, especially after half-time,” Kis told “I believe the fans will see a much better Paks in the home game.”

Paks took an early lead at the Fehérvári úti stadion through Magasfoldi  which settled their nerves, and they never looked back from there. Magasfoldi added a second just after the break, while Bode and Heffler also scored late goals to set up a tie with Tromso of Norway in the next round.

Ferencváros will also have to beat Norweigan opposition in the second round if they are to get to the Europa League group stage. They will face Aaeslund who beat Neath of Wales comfortably.

Fradi started the game the better of the two sides against Ulisses, and broke the deadlock just before half-time through a spot-kick from former Sheffield United man, Liban Abdi. That goal pretty much killed the tie for the Armenians who now had to get 5 goals in about 55 minutes to progress. The second half turned into a bit of training match for both sides before Lorant Olah added the final touches to make it 2-0 on the night, and 5-0 on aggregate.

It was a convincing win for Fradi, and their coach László Prukner, is expecting more of the same for the next round, “We already consider a success to get to the second round, but if we perform in the same manner against Aaeslund, there’s no reason why we can’t go any further.

With KTE also joining in the party in the next round, and having to travel to Kazakhstan, there will be three very tricky ties for the Hungarian sides who will all have to be on top form to progress to the 3rd qualifying round.
